Boilo

If you're from the coal region of Pennsylvania, you've probably heard of Boilo. If not, you're missing out on our best kept secret. Boilo is a very strong alcoholic beverage made on the stove-top and served warm, usually in a small shot glass or espresso-style cup.  It takes hours to make a good boilo, but a little goes a long way.  There are many varieties; the ingredients may include citrus fruits, apples, cinnamon, honey, and lots of secret additions chefs don't like to disclose.

Wiley has his shot glass ready.

Last night, the Hubs and I enjoyed a quiet night at home, and toasted to the new year with a glass of boilo.  We were very tranquil but Wiley got a little wild.**

I wish you could see this classy shot glass. It has a pirate on the side and says "Surrender the booty."

As the evening went on, the boilo took its toll.  He eventually had to lie down.

And finally, we knew when he had had enough.

It was time for Wiley to head to bed and sleep it off.  That's the end of 2012, folks, and tomorrow the Rescue Dog Blog will get back to sharing some great rescue stories, beginning with Petey. Here's a sneak preview of Petey:

You don't want to miss this!  Happy New Year, and make it your resolution to share your dog's story, if you haven't done so yet.

**Please note: Wiley did not actually partake in any boilo. I am doing what most journalists do: sensationalizing the story to improve my ratings. ;-) He did steal the glasses that were still sitting around this morning and bring them to me while I was making coffee, because is he very naughty.
